Sterre Hond (2001) is a classically trained pianist with a passion for film music. Her unique ability to experience colours while playing the piano – synesthesia – makes her compose in a special way. Her pieces are auditory paintings, and the piano keys are her colour palette.
In her words: “I see myself as a kind of musical alchemist. Music is always a multi-sensory experience for me, and so it feels logical to express myself that way.”
Graduated as a classical pianist from the Rotterdam Conservatory, Sterre discovered her passion for composing and improvising. Her refined and sensitive playing and composition style sets her apart from others. With her music, she captures and expresses the mystical and mysterious sides of life. On stage, Sterre enhances her compositions with transformative light projections into multidisciplinary concerts that make synesthesia tangible for her audience. Since 2023, Sterre has worked with film composer Alex Simu and performed her music on NPO.
