Loek Dikker

Loek Dikker (Amsterdam, 28 February 1944) is a versatile composer and pianist whose work has left an unmistakable mark on film, television, theatre and the jazz world for decades. Since the 1960s, Dikker has been at the forefront of both improvised music and symphonic film music. He has worked with iconic directors such as Paul Verhoeven, Peter Delpeut, Margarethe von Trotta and Joel Schumacher and wrote the award-winning scores for ‘De Vierde Man’, ‘Rosenstrasse’ and ‘Body Parts’. He has also performed with jazz legends such as Julian “Cannonbal” Adderley and Don Byas and founded the influential Waterland Ensemble.

His career spans not only the music world, but also the cultural landscape as a whole. As co-founder of the Bimhuis and the European Composer and Songwriter Alliance (ECSA), among others, he has had a lasting impact on the position of composers and musicians. He was also the founder and chairman for many years of the MultiMedia Music Institute (MiMM) and involved in numerous initiatives to promote music and copyright.
