Composer

Anne Teikari

Anne Teikari is a Finnish film composer based in Amsterdam. In 2023 she graduated as a film composer from the Conservatory of Amsterdam. Previously she has worked as a musicologist and music journalist in Finland – a job which had to be quit as the dream of making film music didn’t leave her alone.

Anne’s musical background is in classical music and playing violin, but her heart has always lied in pop, rock, electronic and folk music. She is eager to create the exact musical storytelling that the film is looking for, despite the genre.

As a psychologically oriented composer, human connection is the centerpoint of filmmaking for Anne. Her compositional work gets its inspiration from diving into someone else’s skin and seeing the world through their eyes – making music is her medium of expressing what she sees.

Upon creating music for films, Anne has developed the concept of invisible films. In an invisible film the only visual material on the screen are the words of the script. The film is then live performed accompanied with sound design and live musicians on a decorated stage. The script and music are written by herself, and the crew consists of an editor, sound designers, production designer and musicians. Latest invisible film, womanhood, was premiered in the Muziekgebouw aan ‘t IJ Amsterdam in February 2024 and live broadcasted by NPO.

In the Music in Media Awards 2024 Anne won the category of New Talent with her music for the documentary film Zwart Geluk (2023) directed by Rafik Opti. Her master’s thesis “It is not my music, it is the film’s music” was nominated as the best master thesis of the year 2023 in the University of the Arts Amsterdam.
