NFF Prof Talk: Oliver Coates

Stadsschouwburg - Blauwe Zaal
This activity has already taken place.

Oliver Coates constantly moves between the roles of composer, performer, experimental musician, and record producer. It’s no surprise that he is sought after for a wide range of projects, from mainstream to arthouse.

As a versatile artist, Coates composes for film and television and has provided the music for films such as The Stranger and Aftersun, both selected for the Cannes Film Festival in 2022. He has collaborated with Steve McQueen on Occupied City and contributed to mainstream projects like Significant Other for Paramount Plus.

Oliver Coates is a cellist, composer, and producer of electronic music, working at the intersection of classical, ambient, and experimental soundscapes. In this Prof Talk, Coates explains how his background as principal cellist with ensembles such as Aurora Orchestra and the London Sinfonietta is complemented by his deep involvement in electronic music, where he blends classical precision with dance elements.

This talk is on stage with a moderator and for the whole of NFF to visit. If you are interested in the more intimate talk with Oliver, go here.
